THE BIGIO STORY
New Paragraph
DESIGNER
Malcom Gladwell's "10,000-Hour Rule", states that the key to achieving world-class expertise in any skill, is, to a large extent, a matter of practicing the correct way, for a total of around 10,000 hours. It took me well over 20,000 hours and about 600 unique pieces to reach the point where if I could think it I could make it.
My design work is centered around my clients and is both collaborative and iterative.
ARTIST
My personal aesthetic is shaped by in depth study of Architecture, Sculpture, Painting, Glass, Textiles, Industrial Design and detailed observation of nature.
Function, geometry, material and color are essential to my art.
Most of my work is in 22 Karat gold because of its color intensity. I have devoted a great deal of effort to developing textures to control light reflection.
MAKER
I am a maker.
I took my first class with Sayumi Yokouchi. I have studied ancient techniques with Pamela Farland, Cecelia Bauer and Mahmood Muhawish; catches and mechanisms with Stuart Cathey and Maurice DiBiaggio; wax construction and jewelry design with Fred de Vos for over 17 years and ongoing; stone setting with Blaine Lewis; wax carving with Yaping Qiu; and advanced parametric design with Arthur Mamou-Mami and with Mohammad Yazmi.
"When I am dressing for my friends, I wear my recognizable Van Cleef, Buccelatti, Harry Winston...But when I am dressing for myself, I wear my Bigio pieces."
